Wondering how to make your Valentine’s Day for 2020 memorable? Why don’t you plan to visit Gokyo lake in the Everest region?
For the first time, Nepal is going to witness a friendly match between various international Ice Hockey players from the US, Canada, Sweden, Russia and India among others at Gokyo Lake in the Sagarmatha National Park. Nepal is hoping to set the world record for Ice Hockey match in the highest altitude by organizing the event. At the same time, Ice Skating will also take place where many international figure skaters will be present.
To help in organizing this event, Olympic Figure Skater Laura Kottolwski and Film you Maker Nick Kalisz have gone to Gokyo Lake. Not only they are here to scout the area, but they will also train the locals on Ice Safety, skating and preparation of Ice for the event in case there is another snowfall in between since people aren’t familiarized with Ice Hockey and Figure Skating here.
Laura, who is one of the few high altitude figure skaters of the world, was here after the earthquake while the movie Lhotse in which Nick was involved was just released few months ago. Their team is also helping VNY 2020 in approaching the biggest names in Ice Hockey and Figure Skating like Patrick Chan, Jeremy Abbotts and others as well as reaching out to sponsors like GRAF shoes.
GRAF Hockey is also supporting the idea of Ice Hockey and Figure Skating in Gokyo as they donated 31 pairs of skates that will also be used in the future. The skates can be rented out to people from which the locals can generate funds for future events.
Organizing this event will be a huge boost to the Nepali Tourism Industry since it aligns with the idea of #NepalForAllSeasons. Similarly, this event will also help to establish the country in the Ice Skating World and promote High Alpine Skating.
Tara Air is supporting the trip to Gokyo for Laura and Nick.
